L'oeuf au miroir

A reflection

So, right on schedule, two weeks after my last post (and on a weekend, so we got to witness the event) the deux oeufs hatched and two fuzzy mourning dovelets emerged:

Describing them as anything resembling a bird is a bit of a stretch, isn't it? At this point, they look more like something you'd find in a glass jar on a shelf somewhere in Area 51.

They grow up so fast... (the photo below was taken about a week after they hatched)

In the next photo, mom's thinking it's time they moved out and got their own apartment - the place is getting crowded and they're two weeks old, after all.

First flight was a trans-deck excursion from planter to table:

And beyond! They spent thier first night out of the nest in this tree just off the deck. See them?

Then... (only a few days later):

After the second clutch hatched, we dumped the soil and planted flowers in both planters. I felt a bit of remorse for denying the birds a place to nest, but truth be told, mourning doves are not the best of houseguests and are rather indiscrimimant poopers.

The deck needs a good scrub.
What an experience! We literaly had front row seats from eggs to feathers! Fantastic.

What a view you had! Your photos are great. They must have enjoyed your company since she laid more eggs soon after the first ones hatched.

I don't blame you for putting flowers in the pots after seeing two sets of eggs hatch. Poop on the deck is downright poopy.

Wow. I kept watching for you updates. I am surprised she laid two more eggs after the kids were grown and gone, but did notice she changed nests. Think she changed hubbies, too?

The raccoons in our garage seem less inclined to grow where we can watch them, so Hubby is setting up a webcam. :)
